I live in NW Arkansas. I am willing to travel up to 500 miles away. I would consider camping as an alternative to staying in a hotel. I have 2 kids ages 8 and 11. All of the family enjoys being outdoors and sports.

Try Manny Islands Campgrounds just downriver (the spring river) from Mammoth Springs Arkansas,Make an outing out of it , visit all the caves and other attractions along the way, also you could go south to the Diamond mine outside of Murfreesboro, AR.

St Louis might be a good option. Six Flags is to the SW of town and there is camping close to the park. Downtown is the Arch which you can go up into. Just a couple of bucks! If you've never been to a Major League Baseball Stadium, Busch Stadium has recently been remodeled and tickets are cheap.

I was gonna say where I live-Jasper, Arkansas lol! I live at Jasper and there is a lot to do here -camping, hiking, fishing, canoeing that is cheap and fun.
Would the kids like to look for diamonds? That is fun and is in the southern part -is it Murpheysburough? And Petit Jean State Park is great too.

Branson, Missouri is a good place for families. Whether it be water park, country entertainment, Silver Dollar City (amusement park), lake fishing, camping, and much more is one not to miss. The money spent varies and anyone can find something cheap and fun without a lot of expense.
