inequalities help? please?

Question

ok, 4 < -2x < 6, so u divide it all by 2 right, then u get -2
and this one 2.2<5x-2<6.8, ok i HAVE to get rid of the decimals first, so i multiply all the numbers by 10. so i get: 22<50X-20<68 and my answer came out to a werid answer. can u please explain?thanks a lot.

For the first one, 4<-2<6 does become -2>x>-3 (you do have to flip the signs) and yes, it is still an "And" statement, just in reverse (or in other words, -2>x>-3 is the exact same thing as -3

First, 4 < -2x < 6.
Divide by (-2) and reverse the signs because you divided by a negative to get -2 > x >-3.

First, 2.2< 5x-2 < 6.8 = 22 < 50x -20 < 68
Add 20 to each part to obtain 42 < 50x < 88 or 21 < 25x < 44.
Divide each part by 25 to obtain
(21/25) < x < (44/25), which may be a weird answer but it works based on the problem supplied.

Dividing by 2 will give 2 < -x < 3, not -2 < x < -3.
If instead you divide by -2, then you will get
-2 > x > -3. The sign flipped because you divided by a negative.

42 < 50x < 88
