NTOSKRNL is the "kernel" for the NT Operating System... NT OS KRNL. You should never need to run this yourself.

Win32 is short for 32-bit windows. The 32-bit means... well, it's complicated, but the short version is that it's Windows designed to run on your computer in a mode where the basic size of the numbers it uses are 32 bits, or a number between zero and 4,294,967,296.

Don't get to caught up on that or what it really means. All versions of Windows from Windows 95 on run in 32-bit mode. If you're getting an error saying you're not in 32-bit mode (I'm assuming this happens during startup--you shouldn't be running ntoskrnl.exe yourself... or anything else in the Win32 or Windows directories, for that matter unless you know what you're doing) then you have something seriously wrong with your install. I'd recommend booting from the Windows CD and see if you can get it to do a repair installation.

Good luck.

The question is why would you want to run ntoskrnl.exe in the first place? this is a process that is part of the boot cycle of your machine, and you should have no reason whatsoever to run it on your own.
