If any are alive that can prove that they personally were enslaved, then absolutely.

You just had to open up a hornet's nest.

In my opinion, No they shouldn't.

If they were to get it then there should be other ones to get it also. The Native Americans would be the first on the list, then the ones that came over as indentured servants. And don't let's forget the women of this country that were enslaved for years with no more rights than the black people that were in slavery. And how about the people that are being abducted now and sold into "White Slavery"? But I digress.

A war was fought to free the slaves in the US. Lots of men and women were killed to free them. The payment may not have been in "Greenbacks" but it was made with "Blood". Should the families of the ones that died get reparations from the blacks for their family members dying to free their ancestors?

If they were awarded reparations who would pay it? The US taxpayers? The tribes that may have kidnapped them from neighboring tribes and sold them to the slave traders?

Nope the "bill" if any in my opinion has been paid in full for a very long time.

No. There is not a single person alive today who was a slave. And on that same note, who would pay for it...you and I. And I don't know about you but I have never owned a slave, and neither has anyone in my family for as far back as I can trace...we've been poor since my first forefather climbed off the boat. :-|

Also, black people aren't the only people to have been mistreated in history, and noone else gets reparations.

No. How does that change the fact that blacks were slaves a long time ago? At one point, white people were slaves too. Watch Penn&Teller's Bullshit to see the real truth about slavery and reparations.

It's not feasible and it's absurd.
Besides:
Michael Jackson was accused of molesting a child and the parent of the accuser accepted money (I believe they call it a settlement.). I used to say he was innocent based on that, because as a parent, I would never take money from someone who molested my child. And, I would make sure that the same thing never happened to another child, by not walking away.

Black people! Do you still want the money? Are you willing to assign a monetary value to you're Great-Grandma's experience? Are you willing to let white people tell you to shut-up, already, because the slavery issue has been resolved and you and yours have been paid in full...

As an American, I'm not willing to let my history and my country be perverted in such a way.

I'm black. I don't want no reparations and I was never a slave. But for all of you who say "No" because blacks received welfare are bunch of idiots. Welfare wasn't design for black people only, its there for black and white people as well. There are more white people on welfare than there are black people. There are about 33 million black people in all 50 states compare over 200 million white people.

While I acknowledge the many contributions by blacks to our society and the long suffering endured by them because of the times, I do not believe blacks today should receive those reparations called-for by some headliners.

No. I researched it for my newspaper I worked in. Did you know that over 85% of the Causasians in this country have no background to America or American history? I don't personally believe they should be paid my money when my family never had a thing to do with it. I know they didnt, I came from another country. Also, the majority of African Americans today have no relation to those from the original slaves. Finally, they already have preferences in jobs and other programs such as colleges. So no, I don't think so. I have nothing against African Americans, I have something against paying them for something that happened so long ago that neither the one recieving my money or I had anything to do with.

No, there's no justice system in the world that punishes the children for the sins of their ancestors. My ancestors weren't even in this country when slavery was practiced -- they arrived in the late 1800's. You're talking about taking money from one group of people who are not in any way personally responsible for slavery and giving it to another group of people who have never experienced slavery. It's insanity.

Its a good way for the government to make redress to the descendants of slaves because it would have affected their economic independence through many generations and in some cases will still be affecting them today. Every person has the right to challenge for a better life.

i think if a person can prove their heritage to an american slave then yes. but i also think that the reparation pay should be distributed equally amognst the family rather than each memeber of a family getting individual pay
