I received my first journal in Germany as a kid. Now I have a journal here for fun, which only my closest friends are able to access. Writing helps me sort out my thoughts and feelings....and writing a journal helps me practice my English in writing. I sometimes write in German, because I miss speaking it, and in Tagalog or Visayan for the same reason. The latter is my mother tongue, but I don't know anyone who I can talk to in this language. I speak only English now on a daily basis. Journaling helps me not forget these other languages.

Yes. I received one as a gift some years ago while living in Germany. The darn thang was so nice with an embroidered cover and watermarked pages that it kind-of demanded that I start journaling. Before that, I could never maintain a journal for more than a week.

Personally, I write in a journal only when I have so many different thoughts on so many different situations that it makes my head spin. Then I write down all my thoughts, read them over, and mull over my reasoning for thinking that way. It really helps me during stressful times. That's all I have to say.

Well, I would normally keep a journal - for study purposes only. As strereotyped, girls keep jounals / diaries to wrtie about their moments. For me however, I normally have wandering thoughts about a particular topic that I might have a tendency to forget. So I get a small book, and anything I can remember, I jot it down. One of my courses that I had to do that for was for my FD14A - Writing in the Disciplines course - a course which you can barely pass but you have to pass. For my portfolio, I wrote about Deep Vein Thrombosis and its effect on Air Travellers - twas more a research paper. The requirements were 5 sources - but I went 12. So my journal helped me to compile my information and thoughts about the information and data gathered. Journals did not only help me to keep focused, but to help me stay organised throughout my study. Not only did it help me to pass, but it helped me to pass with an unusual-in-the-course but excellent grade! So for me, I use Journals to help me work, study, and keep all my thoughts in one place.

I don't keep one mainly because if you leave it someplace and someone picks it up. Your life will be the next TV movie of the week. You don't get paid and your life is a joke. Like Paris Hiltons

I have started one many times, but then I think i might be giving up sole possession of the countless things that are truly mine--my thoughts.

No way, I'm too private a person to even be able to stomach the thought of somebody reading all my private thoughts.
