does anyone know of any website that teaches how to play the guitar for free? if you give me a good website i will pick your answer as the best

You should learn the basic chords and power chords first, because that is what most songs are comprised of. Scales and the different note/fret names are also very helpful. Once you get an understanding for getting around your guitar you can try online sites such as mxtabs.net and olga.net for guitar tabs, which are a form of guitar music.

there would be a lot of sites... but if you know someone who knows how to play, just have that person show you or teach you a bit of the basic chords so you'll have foundation...

I know of a couple where you can get lyrics and chords , they show a diagrahm of the chords so you can learn them .
