We shouldn't!!! For the same reason that immigrants should learn English, Blacks (or whoever) should speak standard English. It's how you get ahead in America. If you don't speak the language of the masses, you will always be an outsider, and consequently, not be able to achieve your true potential in life.

The lesson to be taken from the story of the Tower of Babel is that when the masses can't communicate, society falls apart and dies. Hopefully, we...including Blacks...can learn from that.

Originally it was a lazy way of talking, of separating yourself from whites. But as our culture developed, we had a people with no connection to their history, uprooted and placed in a country they had no desire to be in. So they developed a culture of their own. A manner of speech that, while still lazy, was all that they had to claim as their own. But it developed. Recognizing it as a true speech pattern was a consession to Blacks, and their struggle to be recognized, but not because it was a true speech form.

The manner and form of this pattern is not a dialect, or variation of English, but a derivation of an unedjucated people, who decided not to follow the speech patterns of those around them, and who, in days long gone, if they had been found speaking too much like the white man, would be punished.

In today's society, there is no real reason for the speech pattern, except in defiance of the norms of society, and the enforcement of the view that blacks need to be recognized on levels that are not necessarry.

you only use them if thats the way you speak...the thing is, not to judge or look down on people that speak that way. It's just like any other dialect....it's the language of the people. and it's not so important to be able to speak it as it is to understand it. It just depends on you.....do you want to understand?
