how to make a siphon. Get two buckets and a length of tubing. Fill one bucket with water and place it on a surface higher than the other bucket. Submerge the tubing in the water to get all the air out of it. Place your finger over one end of the tubing so as not to let any water out and move the tubing so that it is above the empty bucket while keeping the other end of the tubing in the bucket with water. Lift your finger off the end of the tube above the empty bucket and water should begin to flow though the tube from the full bucket to the empty bucket. You've created a siphon.

A siphon (also spelled syphon) is a continuous tube that allows liquid to drain from a reservoir through an intermediate point that is higher than the reservoir, the up-slope flow being driven only by hydrostatic pressure without any need for pumping. It is necessary that the final end of the tube be lower than the liquid surface in the reservoir.

n : a tube running from the liquid in a vessel to a lower level outside the vessel so that atmospheric pressure forces the liquid through the tube [syn: syphon] v 1: convey, draw off, or empty by or as if by a siphon [syn: syphon, siphon off] 2: move a liquid from one container into another by means of a siphon or a siphoning action; "siphon gas into the tank"

Take a plastic tube, hose or other such object. Put one end (a) in a bucket of water, take the other end (b)and start to suck on it. Once you get enough water over the top of the bucket so that the water will continue on downward lower the end you have sucked on down and the water will continue to flow. That is a syphon.

A siphon is a means (usually a flexiable tube) by which you can transfer liquid from one container( usually at a higher level) to another container (usually lower or at same level) by means of suction. (You can get the liquid flowing from one to the other by puting the end of pipe into the liquid to be transfered and the other end into your mouth and suck on it until the liquid is flowing and then insert the end into the container that you want it in) At least that is how a dumb Red Neck does it.!!!!!!!!!

just like the other guy said. Use a hose have one end much lower than the water u r draining. You may have to suck on the end to get it started. That is how you drain a waterbed,or siphon gas also I guess.
