Because not everyone believes in god, you include it in politics and it offends people that do not believe. Its offensive to me for you to want that more of it.

The idea that America was founded on Christian principles is a myth foisted upon us by the crazies on the Christian Right -who are neither. Exactly which one of the Ten Commandments , which is by of and for Jews ,is America based on. Name it. You can't.
Exactly which Christian principle defines self- determination ? Which Christian principle says that " governments are instituted among men deriving thier just powers from the CONSENT of the governed " which Christian principle says you have a right to over throw your government when it gets abusive? No , those words were writtenby a diest named Thomas Jefferson in the Declaration of Independence.
Another American myth is that of the Pilgrims. Who historically have been portayed as innnocent victims of religious repression- so far so true. However when they got to these shores what did they do ? The instituted a highly repressive religious society in Massachusetts where if you did'nt toe the line , you could wind up in stocks ' or worse yet burned as a witch. No they wanted religious freedom only for themselves -no one else
No America was founded by religious people who had enough wisdom to fear religion. KIngs and bishops still sat side by side and the Spanish Inquistion was still in effect. They well understood the the evils of a Church run world and they did'nt want it here. They feared it so much that the first , not the second or the third amendment to the Constitution says:
"Congress shall make no law respecting an establisment of religion; or prohibiting the free excersise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or the press;or the right of the people peacefuly to assembleand to petitiont the Government for a redress of grievences."
The only way that Americans can have fredom of religion is if they have freedom from religion.

I suspect the Secular Progressives want their "religion" to be the only one to be seen in public places. They use "separation of church and state" as the spearhead of their godless agenda.

Those words are NOT in the Constitution. It says, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion".

Guess what? CONGRESS HAS MADE NO LAW respecting an establishment of religion. There is no official state church, no Church of the United States of America. There ain't none! Never will be! That would be unconstitutional. The "establishment" clause of the First Amendment is very clear.

The continuation of that line is "..or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;...", also referred to as the "exercise" clause. And that brings me to the source of my dilemma. Since Congress has made no law, and neither have the "several states", the first part, the "establishment" clause works just fine. But that "free exercise" part has really been stepped on, and continues to be.

If I am a Muslim, and my daughter goes to public school and wears a head covering, she is obedient to Muslim law and cannot be "prohibited".

If I am an Hasidic Jew, and if my son wears our traditional apparel and the ear-locks or side-curls as prescribed in Leviticus 19:27-28, he cannot be "prohibited" either.

But if I am a Christian, and my child goes to public school, and wears a cross around her neck, or if her teacher wears one, they may very well be "prohibited" to the extent of an ACLU lawsuit.

Why? Because the athiest student in the next desk feels "uncomfortable"? Kids don't learn that kind of thing in school, usually. They get it at home. Or maybe some other student is "offended". If no offense is given or intended, none should be taken.

The National Anthem has been "changed" (translated and paraphrased) because it is supposed to appeal to spanish-speaking individuals. Sorry, that has nothing to do with religion, but I disagree with the people who did it, and object to their agenda.

Yes, the USA was founded on Christian Principles. Both the House and the Senate open their day's sessions with prayer, but you can't pray in school, or at a football game or at a Graduation exercise.

If some have their way, this will become a godless society without any visible recognition of God.

Please excuse my wordiness. I feel very strongly about this.

Well first, you don't have to live in this "Godless" country. You can leave anytime you like. Everyone is entitled to believe what they want to believe. Freedom of religion also includes freedom from religion. You believe that YOUR God is real while other people in the USA and other countries believe in their hearts that their God is real. It stands to reason that you should go through life with a more open mind and understand that if everybody were the same, life would be very boring. Our constitution was "engineered" with the knowledge that it would grow, develop, mature and change. So if you religious types would stop thrusting your way of living (which is 90% hypocritical anyway) on everyone else, maybe more of us could get along!

How many wars were started and how many people have died in the name of one God or another.....that includes the Christian God...let's not forget the Crusades and other senseless acts of violence, wiping out entire cities or civilizations just because they didn't believe what someone else did......

If people don't belong to a church or practice an organized religion, it doesn't mean they don't believe in God or some intelligent power in the universe. One may be an agnostic or even an atheist and yet still believe in the principles of a community based on love and respect for one another. It isn't necessary to believe in God and Jesus as deities in order to live a moral life.
I think that people who lament that we are living in a Godless country are really lamenting that more people don't believe as they believe.
There are many religions worsiping many different versions of God in this country. If all churches and all religions of the world are included in the tally, America comes out as not a Godless country at all.

Belief in god is personal... only your disbelief in God can make
this a godless country...the national anthem is not a reglious song
so changing it does not have anything to do with religion.
The National anthem was written during the fighting of the American revolution and that is why it should not be changed.
And the USA was founded by multiple religious beliefs...and
also what is the definition of a Christian.
Many of the ideas voiced by religious groups who say they are
"christians" are not loving/forgiving/accepting of others.

If you knew your history you would realize that a majority of the "founding fathers" were Diests and FreeMasons. Both of these belief systems emphasize a vague definition of god as the underlying order of the universe that can be discovered by man through natural laws and tested reason. To call them christians is a far stretch because in this context christ is little more than a historical figure and at most a philosophy prophet, definately not the savior of mankind.

well i don't think it's a godless country per se. yes, we have separation of state. but i think that is necessary or else we would have a religion biased government. the usa was founded on protestant principles, but the founders of this country believed in having an unbiased government that could handle the influx of immigrants with different backgrounds, beliefs and religions. they did not want to follow england's suit and persecute people because of their beliefs. that is part of the reason why they left england and came here to start a new, open country.

why do we did we do that? because some people DONT BELIEVE THE SAME THINGS AS YOU, the UNITED states is not about religion, thats the whole reason the pilgrims and the puritans LEFT ENGLAND IN THE FIRST PLACE, yes, usa was founded on christian principles, but those principles are also found in most other major religions, they arent RELGIOUS principles, they are social principles, maybe you should open your mind and listen to your own god when he says that you should be fair by letting other people believe what they want, people like YOU are the reason we have religious wars, because you are so close-minded that you think YOU and YOUR RELIGION are the LAW.

I haven't seen God. Has anybody? I can't prove that God exits. Freedom in some measure brings Godlessness. Wide spread poverty and suffering; Senseless wars; Hate also bring Godlessness. But, when we hear that everything that exists, does because of a ""big bang", and most people have balanced eyes and balanced ears (one on each side); Two arms, one on each side; Two legs, one on each side, you would think that with this "big bang" theory, you might have had one leg on top of your head; One eye on your foot and one eye on your arm and when you look at how beautiful and delicate flowers are, you might ask yourself: Who made these balanced and beautiful things? Even though we can't answer this question, some will always ask: Does God exist? Look at the beautiful things in life, like a baby, a wonderful father and mother, a good neighbor, a compasionate person, the ocean, the stars, so many good things that life offers and maybe there, you will find God.

I love this..godless. I hope you know the God line in the pledge of allegiance was added way after it was authored. First off I don't want a country to be known for having blind faith in something that no one on this Earth can prove exists. Might as well base our socitey on the Jedi code...it's just real. Why do the Christians have to have God on everything...can't you go to court to pay a speeding ticket without giving thanks to a god. And answer me this...if Christians are so right about everything..why do they do everything they can to live as long as possible..I would think you all would line up to die to go to heaven..
