Theres BET, NAACP , Latin music awards , Asian awards etc etc but if there was a whites only award or TV network it would be protested and considered rascist. Why is this?

Great question,
As an instructor on race and ethnicity at DePaul University, this question is asked all the time to me in my classes. As you should know, American history is full of injustice, legal genocide, slavery, and many other horrid types of treatment of people. In an attempt to make amens for such crimes against humanity, our government put many different programs into place, or insisted on an "affirmative action" to rectify these ills that have devastated entire generations of people. From this, came a societal change that fostered an environment that allowed for other cultures to express their interest's in the arts, sports, politics, music, etc.
Just to let you know:
The NAACP is an organization created and supported by people of African decent, Jewish faith, and many other backgrounds. Though it was brought about to assist black people, white people helped make it happen.
BET (Black Entertainment Television) is owned and operated by MTV networks. MTV is owned by AOL Time-Warner. AOL Time Warner is a white-owned corporation.

We cannot discuss this topic properly without first understanding that well over 90% of television programming is mainstream (predominantly white). To conclude, no you are not a racist by being white. You WOULD be racist if you participated in racial bias, prejudice, or hate solely based on another individual's color or ethnicity.

You are a racist no matter what colour you are if you think that the colour of your skin makes you better than any other race.

A minority is known as a group of people or things that is a small part of a much larger group. White people have been predominantly known as the majority in society. Most of our ancestors came from england, and europe, predominantly white people. So, it makes sense that a minority group would feel cast off, or even a little rejected. In the past, whites made it nearly impossible for minorities to have the same rights as them. I don't think you would want to bring back all those deep wounds of racism, just to have an all white TV Network.

That is why the BET, and the NAACP exist. Because in the past white people were not all that kind to minority groups.

I hope that you will never feel the stigma of being known as a minority. No matter what, we are all humans, with all the same rights.

You have white channels. They're called CBS, NBC and ABC. MTV did not allow rap on their station for a long time. As far as white awards... when Halle Berry finally won the first Oscar by an African-American female for boinking a white man... you might think that maybe black people wanted an awards show that highlighted their cinematic and entertainment achievements. You also have groups that are for their respective ethnicities, i.e. your italian-american, Polish-american, etc., etc., whereas the NAACP 's membership is not reserved for only black people neither do they just promote black people's causes but cover a myriad of what they determine as 'social ills'.

Well for the most part most TV show's and channel's are made towards white guys aged 18-25. My fiancee has the same stance that if a all white channel was ever started it would be yanked off the TV with a quickness. I am half cherokee and half black and my fiancee is white. Living down south we get racist looks from everyone. So it makes me think that everyone has some racism of some kind in themselves. Some just hide it a lot better then other's. So what are your thought's on LOGO??? The channel for gay/lesiban people???

well because "white people day" is everyday there are net works and TV shows that don't have any black people on them. Like the show "Friends". How is that show supposed to be in the most culturally mixed cities in the U.S (New York) and theres no black actors or even extras for that matter, on the show?.

So if we don't give ourselves recognition do you think white people will ???

By the way beign white does not make you a racist :)

Being born doesn't make a person racist, no matter what color their skin is. Being racist is something "learned" and practiced by people who's hearts and minds are closed to anyone other than their own color.

People should try more to look at others who are "different" as individuals who have talents, skills, knowledge and love. Those who are racist should try to use "their" attributes better, in a more productive way that serves the good of all ... not just their race, regardless of their color.

this can be a 2 way street. obviously each project is diverse. perchance that distinct replaced into dealt with undesirable by ability of a white human being. There are those who're merely recommend and harsh. i quite desire that shall we walk round skinless. this manner you get to understand the real human being in the previous you're making a harsh commentary. As Col Potter (MASH) positioned it "i imagine you may could get to understand the guy in the previous you may shoot them." It does no longer help once you've the thoughts-set of "i imagine that if non-whites choose understand, then they ought to illustrate it first." Why can not the white human beings coach understand first? in case you elect understand you may understand others first no remember the race. merely undergo in thoughts, the way that you're usually dealt with is a mirrored image of how you manage others. BTW i'm white.

Because of past incidents where "white" people have not acted in a humane and just manner towards their fellow brothers...

Don't ask how this affects us, as we obviously had nothing to do with any historical wrongdoings.

Just remember this following statement:

As a white caucasian male, I have no right to consider the question of race. I do not consider race to be of importance and will not admit otherwise even under threat of torture...

its just how people see. many just do it for attention and to try to make reforms because of abuse they suffered in the past. just because one is white doesnt make them racist, there are many many other races who are racist.
because there really isnt a white race. everyone is a mix of something down the line. and i believe there is the american awards and country music awards, sorry to say, but there arent many white rappers/r&b singers, many people who can sing in the asian or latin language.

I don't know...I don't think it makes you racist. Hold a Caucasion Music Awards...or Caucasion Miss America. You will probably get shot at. And isn't it discriminatory to not let another race enter in the Miss Black America?
