THE best is google.com. They are precise most of the time, and the interface is very user-friendly. Also, if you are looking up a scholarly article, wikipedia.org is a great site. Though it can be edited by anyone, they can be flagged as having false information in them.

- altavista
- lycos
- netscape
Here are some of the best.
Note that sometimes you cannot find anything you need with, say, google but altavista immediately gives you desirable results. Sometimes - vice versa.
