Should I invest in some sort of garment that lines my shoes with odor protection of some kind? Like "Stank-B-Gone" or should I just start wearing socks with flip flops again?

your feet stink becuz you have been wearing stanky shoes. get some new shoes. if that doesnt help then you should consider that perhaps you have an allergy to something in the shoe like vinyl. Most people have heard of latex allergies but strangely enough I found out that I was allergic to airwalks because my feet smelled like the entrance to the zoo. Turns out that airwalks, and many other shoes are made of synthetic vinyl which apparently has the ability to make your feet smell SUPER BAD! Leather shoes don't smell as much, but then again if it's just cuz you have sweaty nasty feet you may just have to deal and wear cotton socks that you change frequently. Sorry to hear that you have such a yucky foot odor. (Dr. Scholl's makes a spray and some powders for that too.) Whatever you do DONT wear socks with flip flops. If you do you will die a virgin!

Because the inside of your shoe smells like the outside of your foot.
And please don't wear socks with your flip flops, lol.

because the outside of your foot is always in the inside of your shoe so their fore it would smell like your shoe.

Maybe you should try shoes that hold together with velcro
