Shouldn't racism be unacceptable all the time? If i were to go into town and call an african american "the n word" and responded by calling me a honkey or a cracker... wouldn't in essence, those be equally bad. Why is it that racism is tolerated, and hatred of a person simply because of color is looked down upon if a white american does it, however accepted and looked past if a person in a minority should do it?

by the way, the basic answer of "slavery" is not an excuse. Slavery was horrible, there is no doubt it that, however THIS generation has nothing to do with that, racial hatred should be unacceptable ALWAYS, not in certain situations or when by certain people.

yes, racism is unacceptable. Unfortunately ignorance is a common virtue in our generation and we must educate our fellow peers to make better lifes for themselves.

Racism is a systemic issue, not an individual one. Racism is race prejudice + power. White America has benefitted from racist structures, and from white people having the power. We still benefit from these things. Yes, slavery is in the past, but the racist system of segregation and discrimination still has effects even into the present time.
Why do we have ghettos? Because for years, black people were not allowed to live wherever they chose, they were "red-lined."
Statistics show that black men are sent to jail at a higher rate than white men for the same crime, and given the death penalty at a higher rate.
It's not about individual attitudes but the results of racial inequality that still affect our society.

i think the reason some people are treated in such ways is because they haven't proved their worth in the world or the society. you cant just get respect from everyone by doing nothing, you have to earn it. the reason whites were racist to black back in those days was because the white saw themselves as more civilised and were able to do allot of things which blacks couldn't at that time.
the word niggler is not racist at all, its refereed to the kind of hair which all blacks have, this shouldn't be a sensitive word because it gives the impression that blacks have certain features that are an acceptable by the modern society. i think they should be proud of everything they are because the word is actually true, blacks do have ***** hair and there is nothing wrong with that. i think sometimes blacks bring such things upon themselves by making a big deal out of it.
whites should not be punished in any way because of what they have done, there are more black racists out there than white racists, i know because as a white, back at my primary school i was treated differently by the black teachers and the black students as they made up the majority of the school. i wouldn't be picked to play football in the major matches as long as there was a black student around, this made me very angry.

totally agree with you... minorities can have their own clubs(like Association of Black Engineers and such), organizations(like the NAACP), and scholarships specifically for them, and everyone is fine with it, yet if there were some called the White Association or something, people automatically would say "Racist!"...
