When I was about 19 years old I had severe abdominal pains and my husband took me to the hospital. It wasn't one in my area (his mother worked there) so I had never been there before and haven't been there since. When they called me a couple of days later with the results of the final tests they said there was a problem of some sort with my uterus. Being young and dumb since was feeling better by then I never went for the follow up. I have not been able to get pregnant and it is now 10 years later. I also have severe cramping with my period and heavy bleeding. The thought just came to me a couple of days ago (I kinda blocked that time of my life out) that I remember this problem. I have already requested the records but have not received them yet. What problem could this be and what can I do in the mean time to correct this while I am waiting for the records?

I'm worried that I may have permanently damaged my reproductive system because of this.

My thoughts are that you should really go get yourself a good fertility checkup with your ob/gyn. If you can not get ahold of your records..explain the situation and your concern.

In my opinion it sounds like Endometriosis...but I am not a doctor. And endometriosis can be dealt with :)

Good luck to you.

This could be what you are going through. I had this same problem. It was endometriosis. It is where the lining of your uterus grows outside your uterus and can cause severe cramping and monster periods. It manifests itself in four leves of severity, Stage 1-4 (I had stage two) It can be suspected with symptoms but the only way to truly know if you have it is for the doc to go in and see. Then then can remove it and you will have alot better chance of getting pregnant.

However, either way see ifyou can get those old records or at least a new examination to find out what is going on.

I had a lot of cramping and bleeding when I had periods when I was younger. It turned out I had endometreosis. I have a had a miscarriage, and when they did the D&C that caused some scar tissue to form in my uterus. And always caused painful periods after that. I don't know if that is the answer to your question but I also had a hard time conceiving after that too, but before my miscarriage I had two children but had tried to conceive again with no luck. When I had painful periods and heavy bleeding though the dr put me on birth control said it would help with the painful periods. I hope that helps some I don't know if I answered your question or not.. good luck.. Hope you find the answer you are looking for

It sounds like you may have what is called a "uterine anomaly". Uterine anomalies occur during the time when YOU were forming in your mother's belly...not afterwards. There are a number of variations each with their own implications for infertility and are too numerous to go into detail here.

What you should do (in addition to requesting your old records) is go see an Ob/Gyn and tell them exactly what you told us here. They should start off with a pelvic ultrasound to look at your uterus. If it does indeed look abnormal other tests they can do to image your uterus would either be an MRI (best choice but costly), hysterosalpingogram (reasonable choice, but may not pick up certain anomalies), or surgery (last choice...it's invasive and costly and there's other non-invasive ways to look at your uterus).

Go to the hospital with all your I.D and ask for them. If they persist in not obliging to you requests then get a court order where they will have to hand them over. Go see another doctor in the mean time to get everything sorted out as aposed to waiting for results... A new doctor may also have more success in obtaining medical records aswell ;)

Do not worry about your old records after 10 years a new doctor would not use them and with the new techongley and testing equipment the problem should be pinpointed very quickly and they can unlock the baby factory for you.
