Fear. That is why Colin Powell did not run. This country is still not ready to deal with the fact that racism in its many forms is still as prevalent today as it was 200 years ago. There will be a woman president well before any man of color will because of that word "fear". Ignorance breeds fear, fear breeds intolerance, intolerance breeds hatred and hatred breeds violence. It is the way of the world. I think Colin Powell could have won. The aftermath of that is any body's guess.

So far... Historically, white males have dominated American society. They have been the Generals and CEO's... in other words the leaders from which politicians are harvested. However, over the last several decades this trend has begun to see a move toward racial and sexual equality. There are now many corporate and military leaders who are women and/or have ethnic backgrounds. The result is an increasing diversity in the political framework of our nation as these individuals are elected into political office. This diversity will undoubtedly lead to a President eventually being elected who is not a white male. It just takes time.

Only white males are elected because white males have had freedom longer than blacks and women. Atleast thats why they have always been elected in the past. There is no explanation why there hasnt been a female or black president yet. It doesnt really matter what color their skin or race is to me as long as their a good leader. But maybe some people would only vote for a black politician or only vote for a white politician because their that race which is stupid.

This is a loader question, and I usually don't answer them, but I will try. One could argue that we did have one female President. That would be Mrs. Woodrow Wilson who secretly ran the country while her husband was incapacitated by a stroke. Some say Clinton was the first black President. Writer Tony Brown claims there were several black Presidents. Warren G. Harding was rumored to have black blood in him, thus making his black by some people's definition. Actually, few blacks have sought nominations on major party tickets. As for qualifications to be President there are few. You must have lived in the US for the last ten years. You must be at least 35 years old. You must have been born on American soil. It does not matter if you are a felon, black, white, brainless, or what. Check out the Constitution.

most people above are wrong. Only in last fifty years has there been any real steps towards diversifying the white male dominated government.
True, white males are more qualified. However, becoming qualified to become a government official requires that white males already in government support you...

Obama starting to be to be president would not propose that we as a rustic has 'conquer' racist recommendations-units and mentalities. there'll continually be those people who harbor deep-seeded hateful perspectives in the direction of others who's epidermis isn't an identical hue as theirs. And racism by no ability went away or disappeared; its basically that folk the place waiting to cover it allot greater beneficial. Now that we've a guy who's categorised as being African American in place of work, some human beings see it as being 'a step decrease back' (or a adverse meditated image) for our united states, a shame or maybe for some religious followers 'the tip of circumstances'. have faith me, in this election, many peoples eyes the place open to the 'dirt' of politics, the genuine schedule's of a few media merchants and over all the actual critiques of people who call themselves 'individuals'' and how they see different fellow individuals. We have been given a hazard to work out how this united states divides itself between nationality or maybe faith (because of the fact its nevertheless believed that Obama is muslim) in terms of political association.
