If the carb. has 2 are adjustments on it turn them both all the way in then back them off 2.5 turns. That is the adjustment for them. If it only has 1 adjuster then turn it all the way in and back it off 3 turns. This should set them up for you if the carb. is in good shape

Get it to idle. Adjust the screw on the bottom of the reservoir (jet adjustment) to get the smoothest idle. Reset the idle on the throttle butterfly to the proper RPM, then put it under a load to ensure that you have the jet adjusted properly. You may need to readjust the jet. If the engine surges, you should be able to loosen it to get a little more fuel in. Then reset your idle. Provided the carb is clean.

pick up a book on the engine at[ murrays auto parts, or auto-zone] they carry books that go back to engine series and hp as well as the model the books go from like 21/2hp up this will give you all the engine info too up to about 20hp .

Some by the way used more than one carb design on a single engine (the books cover this ).
