You have a very good and 100% viable point!
Yes, the vast majority of stories pulled from all parts of the bible are either a play on words in order to try and explain something else or simply not true!
Most Christians are not stupid and know this (Not all!, same for non christians and other faiths) and accept this fact as part of their faith etc.
I agree with yourself personally, and no way could I accept such 'fairy tales' as part of any faith system I wish to adhere to!
But at the end of the day its all down to personal expression and believe and of course the freedom of choice! If you want to believe these stories then so be it! If I do not want to believe them, again, so be it!
Enjoy life and try and tolerate the views of others, no matter how silly you may feel their are for you!

There are lots of things which make no genetic sense like nipples on men, the apendix, panda bears having a vegatarian diet with a carnivore's digestive system and so on. Lots of extremely disadvantageous flaws riddle the genetic makeup of pretty much every species.
The flood story is not particular to Christianity, it is in pretty much every religion. Judaism and Islam have the story of Noah.
The Sumarians, Babylonians, and Akkadians have exactly the same story except Noah is called Ziusudra or Utnapishtim respectivly.
The Chaldeans have the same story except again Noah has a different name - Xisuthrus.
The Greeks describe several floods and disaters of legand including the flood in which Deucalion and hsi wife excaped by building a chest to sail in while eveyone else in the region drowned.
The Nordic saga Beowulf describes a very similar flood.
The Incans have a legend of Viracocha who destroyed he giants with a flood but two humans survived in a sealed cave to repopulate the earth. The Mayans and Aztecs both have stories of a flood drowning the lands upto the mountains.
The ancient Chinese, Japanese and Koreans all have accounts of an epic flood.
Hinduism mentions the god Vishnu taking the Avatar form of a fish to warm Manu and his wife top build a boat to survive a forthcoming flood.
So it seems either the case that pretty much all major established religions share in this story. It very well may "make absolutly no sense" but it seems to be a story that is known to every major civilisation.
There are plenty of other religious stories that make no sense but to be honest what makes sense and what is is self-evident vary hugely from person to person. Perhaps it is just best to believe what we feel is best to believe - if you think about anything too long it begins to seem wrong. Even a simple concept like 2+2=4 seems absurd if you contemplate it for five or six hours.Who's to say there is an objective reality at all?

Wow man this is deep.
I reckon the concept of an ark does not necassarily mean 2 by 2, possibly just a sample gene pool to enable survival ( have you ever seen the video to Muse's 'Sing for absolution' ) just as you cannot feed 5000 with a few fish and some bread, but the message of sharing becomes clear by hearing this seemingly stupid story.
Just for the record I am not the religious sort, but I reckon this is the most objective view point.

Well more and more you will see that there is evidence for all scripture based stories. For instance in almost every culture and religion there is a story of some great flood happening in history.
Also note that there were more than 2 people on the ark and they were not all necessarily related.
You need to read scripture more closely and do research into something of this matter. I am not being argumentative or saracastic in saying this.
But to God be the Glory!

Many of the biblical stories are allegorical, which makes a difference in how you read them.
As to the limited gene pool -- where do you think all life began? With a couple of protozoa. The earliest model of any creature -- call them Adam and Eve or whatever -- must have started from a limited gene pool. That's what mutations and development are all about -- to widen the potential.

Actually genetically speaking, humans were stronger thousands of years ago than they are now. Where having a child with your cousin often causes problems now, that would not have been the case in Noah's time.
What is really surprising is how many of the Biblical stories have been verified. And even today we are finding new evidence to prove that old stories could be true.

Its just that some people need to believe in some kind of ideal or higher example
I reckon that Judas was a cool dude really and that he had balls like bloddy watermelons. In reality he got hung because he was the only one who had the balls to stand against jesus and say he was a fraud eg ( turning water to wine and then reviving Lazarus froim the dead and feeding 5000 people on 3 loaves and 2 fish !!??)
But they didnt want yo0u to know that.
Dont forget that in th e dark ages and other periods in history the bible was re written many times with various passages edited out by certain "religious factions " and other philospphers scrolls burned or banned etc
( we are getting to "da Vinci code" territory now )

Its not about believing in religious stories its about having faith in God. Just because something doesn't make sense doesn't mean that it can't be true. Look in Proverbs chapter 3 verse 5
Also you talk about be screwed up with incest over generations. Look on the news pal. Read todays newspapers. The planet is screwed up. Maybe not genetically but the whole planet is in a real mess. That is because of sin and mans wickedness (The word man is from the word mankind and not sex-est).
If we don't believe in Noah, or David and Goliath, or the stories of Moses, or others, what does it matter. The end of the day we can believe in all of them or not but if we don't have faith that God is real and we don't trust in the Lord Jesus Christ and his amazing love for us and thank him for dying on the cross for our wickedness (that's you personally) then it'll be in vain. The Bible says 'It is impossible to please God without faith.' I ask you a couple of question, 'What are you going to do about your sin and wickedness. What are you going to do about Jesus?

They don't.
They say they do.
They don't.
They lie. It's what they do.
They are dishonest people.
People don't believe that stuff.
Some doubt and wonder, others know perfectly well its origin is entirely earthly and artificial. The former don't claim to believe, the latter group contains those who do claim to believe. They are liars. Pure and simple.
No-one sane believes it.
Do you find it so hard to believe so many people could be playing the same dishonest game? You're meant to. Why? What's the big surprise?

I believe they do make sense. The bible was written from the time of Jesus and things were not worded the same nor did people think the same then. Maybe that is why it doesn't make sense to you. One of the main things the bible teaches is to have faith in things you can not see or feel is unbelievable.
