For the same reason that they build walls around grave yards -- even though the people who are inside aren't trying to get out, and the people who are outside certainly don't want to get in.

Well it is obvious of course. After they die, they don't have a choice, there family's do it, Plus we could not leave them laying about because it would get so smelly everywhere, unless they are a vampire. Then they sleep in the ground because they can not stand the sun. And if they gets cuts and stuff, the good mother earth helps heal the wombs.

Only real 'fundamentalists' believe that 'hell' is below ground. Even some fundamentalists don't believe that. I've only heard a few religious people claim that hell is actually the middle of the earth where the lava is.

I guess its because they cant afford to put in one of those big tombs. Besides people who believe in hell usually dont think they're going there no matter what. So 6 ft. down doesn't matter to them.

Because that's the legally established depth for burial, any shallower and you attract vermin, any lower is dangerous to mourners.

You probably hope I'm joking but you should read some of the laws they've past.

because hell is just a metaphor for evil and not an actual place. its a scare tactic to get people to be nice to each other.
