Each PC requires a NIC (network connection), then you'll need either
a single crossover cable
OR
two normal network cables and a switch.

Well the way i understand your question, you either want to watch what a person is doing on his/her computer ro take over his/her computer with his/her consent.

A couple of ways. gotomypc.com offers free access such as viewing files, but you cannot see the image for free. You can pay for that or use their 30 day trail.

You can use programs such as vnc (dont ask, its confusing)

The best way for me is to either go to Start>Help and Support>Under "Ask For Assistance" Click the first link regarding friends>Then "invite someone to help you. from there you have like 3 choises.

If you have an MSN or Hotmail(free) account. You can sign on with MSN messanger and when talking to the person, click ask for assistance. Rest is easy from their on.

Let me know if you need some more help

It depends on the kind of connection you want to establish. If you know that the other PC is waiting to your connection (i.e. remote firewall allows you to connect), try telnet.
Do not forget to ping known IP before :-)

get the IP address of the PC you want to connect.

For Win Xp start> run>cmd> type ipconfig> get the IP address
Go to the 2nd PC. start >run> type the ip address using this sufix \\. e.g \\198.0.0.1

2 pc's without a hub or switch? You would need a crossover cable. Not sure I'm understanding you question.
