You answered your own question:
humans seek meaning
humans seek interaction
And they do this in all kinds of variations, some of which turn out to be dead ends, others of which provide comfort, solace, engagement, learning, transformation, encitement, excitement, and all the rest, but we often don't know if the outcome will be meaningful or useful until we interact.

I think that as the pace of the world speeds up and families become more and more distant I find that people are reaching our more and more through meaningless interaction. I have only ever asked one question on Answers and it was a question that was well thought out and very important to me. I got very good answers.
I think when people feel unimportant and don't have close personal relationships with their families and friends they get some small pleasure out of seeming cute and important through asking "stupid," "racist," or "obscene," questions.
I think when you live a full life that includes wonderful friends and a job you love you are not pulled into that meaningless void.

Unfortunately the majority of Americans can only communicate through meaningless bantor. The smarter your peer group the better the communication, yet it is good to have small talk skills as it seems to be the expectation

Some people like to feel special, cool, smart, etc.
Some people want to win some prizes.
Some people want to try to provide some helpful pointers to those who need/want it (most people like to relay their experiences to others in the same situation - maybe it's a form of validation).
Some people just have nothing better to do, and it's interesting to see what questions people are asking out there - and sometimes it's intersting enough to answer to...
But what do I know?

um...answers to your questions arent meaningless or else u wouldnt b asking. it must mean SOMETHING. and besides, its only natural to feel the need to find answers to a question in your mind. its not all about interaction, although, this way is easy and makes one feel needed and wanted in a wierd way.

I think a lot of interraction is meanngless. That is why you can send IM's and contact people by via e-mail on here, so you can talk out whatever you want.
