Many people are instantly offended when this question is asked, even in the most respectful way from a curious mind. So now instead of getting information on your question people are attacking you for asking the question. This is why this question and the word in fact remains a taboo, because most people will not talk about it openly with another race and automatically take offense to the inquiry.

I don't know why any race would refer to themselves with an offensive word or term. But in the same sense a word only has the power to offend you when you allow it. And in reference to this word it carries so much meaning historically, and not in a good sense, that Americans as a culture should make the decision to omit the word from our vocabularies.

It is a word that is historically racially charged when a white person has said it to a black person. Historically speaking, every time a white person said it to a black person, it was because they were looking to demean, degrade and offend a black person who was in many instances unable to defend himself from the slur. On the flip side, a black person saying it to another black person has no such historical connotations. If a white person says it to a black person, one has to wonder about the intent behind the word, especially since it is still used as the most derogatory term towards black people today. One does not have to (usually) wonder about the sentiments if it is coming from another black person. Still, a black person will get offended if another black person who is not 'cool' with him/ her says it to him/her, and will usually respond to the phrase by saying "I ain't ya n***a". It is a term of familiarity, only to be used among friends... much in the same way females may jokingly call each other b****, or a group of gay people will call each other fa*s, or friends may have derogatory nicknames for each other that they only use, and any outsider would be crossing the line by using that term.

OK heres why cuz blacks are there own worst enemy .the reason why we use the "N bomb" because we see it as a friendly term to use on each other but,it use to be used as bad term in fact it still is .some people say that it s not the same cuz it's spelled different example "ni**er" and "****a" blacks see ****a as a term of endearment but that's like saying that there is a difference between Nazis and neo-Nazis it still wrong no matter how you put it.

Best Answer.

A real ni**ger will not answer that question.

All seriousness. It has become a term used to soft its meaning or implication amoung people of color or social status. Believe me many americans who are african descent feel other races of people who act in a manner of disrespect for culture / land / self / and education/money are considered ni**ger's as well. Its not a term soley for people of color.

Hope this helps.

It is a stupid way of kind of saying like "what up my brother" instead saying "whats up my n**ga." For the most part only Black Americans use that word, black people world wide(like the Carribean, Africa and South America) look upon it as ignorant and stupid.

Its just one of those things people who aren't black will never ever understand. but do we really want to?

Its a black people issue anyway. Respectable black people like Oprah abhor such a word

A better question would be Can Wiggers (white dudes who act black) use that word? Or can they only say "HEY WIGGER WHATS UP"

truth be told, like people said before it just a cultural thing. personally i find it derogatory either way you put it. i was always taught that sure black people use it, but not all black people. usually those that lack understanding or even simply put are just ignorant. considering where the word originated i usually just keep it out of my vocabulary, but i dont speak for everyone...
