there is a problem with the fire alarm in the building where i live and i would like to take some type of action against them. and i think i should at least get the other tenants involved by signing a petition. but i don't know how to go about it, nor what steps i should take after that.

Contact the closest fire dept. and have them come and check it, they are supposed to make periodic checks anyway, so he doesn't even have to know who called them to check it.
I would do it right away.

on your computer list what you want to acomplish then print it out and go from door to door and "plead your case" then ask them to sign your petition, once you have a ton of signatures make a few copies, send one to the landlord/manager. if they do nothing send it with another letter stating that it had been brought to the right persons attention and they have done nothing. if they can help you they will.
