Who is "you guys", you mean Americans? If so, it's cause we are a different culture, so accept it, we are all different! Would it be any fun if we were all the same? Plus, we're Americans and we do what we want to cause we think we're free.... But that's another story to talk about!!!

I would not want to use a football as a handball, is shape is all wrong.
A hand ball is a ball you play handball with, is it just me or is this question totally racist toward s Americans. Who really cares what the freaking sport is called?
I don't talk **** about how pussy the Navy of Spain is, cuz I don't care.

Since football was not popular in The U.S. due due commercial free for 45 minutes. To get the equivalent universal term of the game; they called "football" for the hand-ball game for measuring in "foot" or "feet" when offense. They replace (in The U.S. term only) the name "socker" for the real football game.

International community call the game happens in Germany now is "football" game and not "socker"

O.k. to my understading the word SOCcer was given to football simply because the word 'football' was already taken by what i see is an american spin off version of rugby (american football). Because real football is a team sport the word soccer discribes this, the word social is built in the word SOCcer. You guys in euroland now understand..?

i have been in the states for eight years and still have not found that answer. i think it is cause the USA still doesn't really understand this amazing sport. i mean who chosses American football over reall football. i think it also has to deal with the fact that the USA is not good a soccer, atleast not as good as they like to think.

because we have a game called handball. The ball is small and you use your hand to hit. It is kinda like racquetball without the racquet.
