You are the parent and he is the child - he needs to know that. You need to talk to him and set down rules - and you have to have a punishment or reaction to them AND follow through with it. He needs to know that if he doesn't listen there are going to be reprocussions. It's important you instill this now - he needs to know you are the one in charge.

Well, he is having issues also. With the Divorce etc.
He'll probably will need to see a counselor.Believe me they do help in these situations.
I also have a 9yr old son. Just need alot of love and attention. If his grandparents are close by, they might could help to.

Let him know that you love him and understand the issues he is having however throwing tanturms and swearing is disrespectful to you and will not be tolerated... I spank my kids however many parents do not wish to so there is time out and other measures of punishment above all he has to be shown that everytime he acts out some sort of punishment will follow... not just now and then... Reward good behavior and try speaking to him see if there is anything he needs to discuss...

It also helps if both parent work together and stay consistent on discipline. I know it's harder with the divorce, but it will make a difference.

spank his butt. But, never do it in anger and use restraint. Not RESTRAINTS, like handcuffs, but just know how hard and when to stop.
