You have two options.
You can cut calories and perform crunches like crazy, try one of the hot new incredible infomercial ab devices and buy the lastest new and improved "fat burner".
Also there is another option but it is not too popular. Eat right, Understand functions of the abdominal muscles, work the body as a whole, and allow for ongoing fat release.
Of all of two options, there is only one that "works," all of the time. Unfortunately, it "appears" to be the most complicated.
You can read about the real Ab-Solution at the link below;

DO NOT continue doing something just because "THEY" say it's the way things should be done. Allow yourself to choose the solution that will work for you, regardless of what it may be. The only way for you to know who is right is to measure your progress and ACTUALLY track your results.
CHANGE IS HARD, but it's also worth it. Not getting results makes change EXTREMELY HARD.
Get support from friends, family or a coach. Losing weight is not as hard at it seems once you know what to do.

It depends on a variety of factors whether or not you will achieve your desired "model flat" stomach. What kind of exercise are you doing? When you say that you watch what you eat, what does that mean? Are you counting how many calories you are eating?
Situps will help to tone the muscle beneath any stomach fat you may have, but doing situps will not gain you that flat stomach you want. In order to achieve your flat stomach, you must reduce your overall bodyfat. This may mean exercising more and making sure your diet is correct.
I would recommend that you do 30 minutes of moderate to high intensity cardio 3-4 times a week, situps and some general weight training using low poundages and high repetitions.
Also, make sure your diet is correct. In order to get rid of bodyfat, you have to burn more calories than you consume. It is a simple concept, but difficult to execute. In order to know how many calories your body burns, use a Basal Metabolic Calculator:
http://walking.about.com/cs/calories/l/blcalcalc.htm
The above link will give you a general idea of how many calories you burn every day. Start with that number and reduce the amount of calories you are consuming to below that level, and you will begin to burn off bodyfat. If it isn't working for a couple of weeks, make sure you aren't eating more than you think you are, and adjust your caloric intake as needed.
