I recommend South Dakota''s Mount Rushmore. My dad and I went there last summer and had a blast. There are also some other things to do like visit some hot springs, one of them is also a small, very fun, water park. There is a little-known crazy horse monument under construction that has an amazing story behind it. You can even see the blasts as they carve out the rock. The Rushmore Caves are also a good time. South Dakota is one of those stereotypical family vacations that make memories, even if it is all touristy.

there are the sand dunes in the san Luis valley, there is also a gator farm, and 2 trains that run from alamosa to la Veda or from antonito to chama new Mexico. There are a lot of great hotels in alamosa i recommend the Comfort Inn not only because i work there but because we have a pool and hot tub and everything you need in the room. From Denver you are 4 hours away and the dunes are fun for the kids.
