Because its free? Just because something is there doesnt mean that you have to pay for it. That being said, if I drove a whole lot, like, 30,000 miles a year, I might decide it was worthwhile. But I dont, and its not :)

Personally for me it isn't about not having any commercials or having them. There are particular people on public radio that are not available on satellite radio and if it were, why would I pay for something I can get for free and all I have to do is listen to the occasional advertisement. Particularly since, advertising isn't just about filling airwaves with commercials so that the radio can charge a fee for the advertising slot. The radio DJ's and personalities need a bathroom break and food break too.

The obvious answer being that regular radio is free, and you have to pay for satellite radio. I have Sirius satellite radio, but I don't use it too often, because I still find myself changing the stations a lot. For me, I am usually better off with my own customized yahoo launch station or mix cd that I create myself.

Two major enhancements to satellite that are necessary for greater acceptance are storage and portability. I don't think it is possible to customize the content you receive from the satellite, but it would be nice to be able to set it to download and store songs as they are played. Sort of like the satellite radio version of what a DVR does for TV. And, portability is what will ultimately make shares of XMSR and SIRI to take off. Imagine being able to go to your favorite sporting event and be able to still listen to another game on the Inno or the upcoming Sirius portable device.

Ah, because old, commercial-filled radio is like your ol pal down the street. It's a friendly, mostly live-broadcasted voice askin' you how you're doin in rush hour traffic, tellin you to have an easy day with the tunes he's about to bestow upon you. It's warm and fuzzy and, if it's a good station, unpredictable.

They don't mind commercials or don't care enough about what they listen to to spend the money. Just because you CAN afford something doesn't mean you should buy it if it isn;t important to you.
