6 billion people, each with 2 sq ft is 12 billion sq feet. There are 27 million sq ft in a sq mile (1280 ft x 1280 ft). Thus, all the world's people could fit in 430 sq miles, which is much less than the smallest state, Rhode Island (1545 sq miles). Washington DC, however, is 68 sq miles, so the people would take up roughly 6 times that size.

Rhode Island is the smallest state and is approx 1214 sq miles (according to wikipedia).
