legends of Southern Rock- from Jacksonville, FL.
This song was written as a response to Neil Young's song "Southern Man" which the band felt was an insult.
Hence the line in the song "...hope Neil Young will remember 'Southern Man' don't need him around anyhow..."

I grew up with this bands music!
God Rest the Souls of Ronnie VanZandt and Steve & Cassie Gaines - members of the band who lost their lives when the bands chartered plane crashed in a swamp in Mississippi in 1977.
Yet the music played on in another form with surviving members as the Rossington Collins band- and a version of Skynyrd still plays fairs and festivals to this day- but its not the same.
The band was started by VanZandt, Allen Collins and Gary Rossington while in high school. They named the band after a gym coach who didn't quite approve of these long-haired country boys, Leonard Skinner. Albeit they altered his name dramatically.
