You're ovulating. That takes place about 2 weeks before your period. Nothing to worry about!! It's the most likely time to get pregnant (although no time is "unlikely".)
The "cottony stuff" should go in far enough so that you can still feel it with your fingertip. It shouldn't be outside of your vagina at all, but just right inside and the string should be all that hangs out further.

Your ovulating, some will notice this and some won't. So if you want to get pregnant this is a good indicator that your ovulating. If there is an odor or it changes colors see a doctor. Also you can get free pamphlets on menstruation and changes that your body does during menstruation and ovulation at the local health department. On tampons you hold the tube, upon insertion your fingers will touch your skin, maybe push just a tad more and remove the tube. You should not feel the tampon if it is in far enough. If it isn't in it will be uncomfortable but not painful unless you leave it not inserted deep enough. Also there usually is an instruction sheet within the box that has diagrams to show you.

Hi. The discharge is probably when you ovulate (when the egg leaves the ovary to the tube.) Many women have clear, or milky leakage then. Push the tampon in as far as it will go but still have enough string hanging until you pull it out. If you don't push it past the muscles, it may tend to slide down. Usually you can tell when it's all the way in. Good Luck

Yes, it is normal.
As for using tampons, if you have just started getting your period recently, then I would personally recommend using pads. If you want to use tampons, then there are directions on the box. I'm sorry I cannot be more help on that, but I have never used them. (20 years old, but never had a very heavy flow, especially since I started using birth control last year)

It's from ovulating. Totally normal. Try a panty liner. Tampons have instructions. It says you should not feel the tampon in.

Vaginal discharges are normal. If the discharge smells, see a doctor.
Tampons - use a tampon with an applicator...this insures that you get the tampon in correctly.
