Nothing. There is no difference. Both are descriptions of the threshold by which we judge a thing or group of things to be true, thus becoming a truth. Within this threshold is an amount of previously accepted thuths regarding an idea that a particular person may require to accept this new idea as a truth.

An assumption is something taken for granted or accepted as true without proof; a supposition: a valid assumption.
Presumption; arrogance and a belief is mental acceptance of and conviction in the truth, actuality, or validity of something: His explanation of what happened defies belief.
Something believed or accepted as true, especially a particular tenet or a body of tenets accepted by a group of persons.

A belief implies that the idea has been given thought and a decision has been reached in your mind...you believe. An assumption is based on partial information....the old saying goes "For when you assume, you make an *** out of u and me."

Assumptions can be changed. Beliefs cannot be.

A belief is your KNOWLEDGE that something exists or works...

An assumption is just a GUESS that it exists or works...

Assumptions are ideas you get with your mind it may be true and may not you your self isn't sure ( I assume that every body here is selfish )
Believes is something you quit sure its exist and true ( I believe in God )

Assumption always leaves reasonable doubt.

Belief is that you know that you know that you know beyond a shadow of a doubt.
