many things can cause missed periods. How old is she? Could she be going through early menopause? Stress, over exercising, any emotional event that causes stress can make you have a period when you don't expect it or miss them. She should go see a doctor because what if it is something internal like her ovaries? Scarey to think but she could have ovarian cancer,or is sterile.Just be firm with her, tell her how much you care and tell her that you are making an appointment for her and taking her to the doctor yourself!!!!! I'd do that for my friend...

Just like everyone else here has, I will give you another idea regarding irregular periods, as I've had them since I started menstruating in 1978...16 years ago I only had 3 periods in 1 year and also had no symptoms. But I was going through a divorce & gained 50 lbs due to stress....
1) Birth control can help; sometimes just having enough estrogren & progestrone can regulate it.
2) Being obese or too thin.
3) Stress
4) (and this is my reason for it) Diabetes. I was diagnosed with Type 2 (adult) diabetes last year and once I was regulated with medication my periods regulated themselves.
Regardless of the reason (hopefully it's nothing serious) she should go to a gynecologist to see if any of the above may be a cause (or in the 1st instance) a remedy. Good luck :)

Do you know if your friend has been under any type of strees lately? I know that stress can cause you to have missed periods. Tell her not to rely on home pregnancy tests, because they aren't very reliable. She should go to the doctor and get a blood test done to determine if she is pregnant or not. Blood test cannot give you false reports. Also a couple of other things that can cause you to miss your period are weight loss and weight gain, increased exercise, medications, and hormonal imbalance. She should also treat herself as if she was pregnant, until she gets confirmation, via a blood test, to confirm if she is or not. But if she's missed since last June, I don't think she'd be pregnant. LOL But still, wouldn't hurt to get some blood tests done.

Try this amazing book:
Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weshler. (There is a website: www.ovusoft.com) The book gives a detailed explanation of how the menstrual cycle works (you thought you knew!) and possible reasons this happens.
You may want to mention to her that most doctors don't recommend going more than 90 days without a period, as it can raise the risk of infection and possibly some cancers.
Inducing a period is relatively easy with medication her doctor can provide, and utilizing the info in the book I mentioned may help her find out why she's not having periods.

It could be something life-threatening, and it could be something that might stop her from ever being able to have children.
Tell her to go to the doctor. She'll be nervous the first time, but then it won't be so bad. It doesn't take long to get examined, she can have a female doctor if she asks for one, and most gynecologists are very gentle and sensitive with their patients because they understand how uncomfortable or scary it can be at the first visit.

Everyone's cycles are different and this can even include not having a period for a while. I don't think this is completely normal but if she refuses to go to the doctor I would only advise you to stop worrying about it because if she doesn't care enough about herself to take care of herself then why should you?

Well the fact is that this could be a sign of something very serious and that she really should go see a doctor. An abnormal period is not a big deal a year without one is a big red flag.

So don't bug. It probly is somewhere in the family. We don't know for the simple fact that my mom was adopted and my dad's family are **** heads.
my mom would talk to doctors and said what I just told you about the family thing, they would recomend birth control, but I don't see the harm in it. I have another sister that will be 19 in september and she never started

She needs to get to a doctor. I have had this problem in the past as well as some friends of mine and they will prescribe birth control to regulate it.
