I just ordered an Apple computer and I have never used one before. Will I find it difficult to switch from Windows? Any advice or tricks I should be made aware of?

The main difference between apple and windows is that the software used to run the computer (operating system) is different. One result of the different operating systems is that an apple computer organizes and names things differently (not too different but still different) than a windows computer. For example, 'recycling bin' on windows is called 'trash' on an apple.
But the basic interface is the same -- just point and click.
One of the reasons windows was created was to look and behave similarly to apple computers since people found apple to be user friendly.

In fact, if you're doing things like word processing, Internet, games, music, videos, pictures, then it'll look and feel really similar. It's when you're doing more advanced things like computer programming that the differences are more important. One apple computer trick I know is that if you're in a situation where the computer freezes, try pressing the keys 'control - open apple - delete' all at the same time. You'll see an apple that is not filled in on the keyboard -- that's the open apple key.

Ooooohhh... Well in my mind if you expertise is in any computer field you should definitely use Windows Operating system. If not go for a mac. The reasons are that you can pretty much view more information with Windows, hack, and implement more applications easier.
The main appeal of a mac is that they don't crash as much as Windows systems do in my experience, and the only thing they'll do for you is just open Application written in AppleScript, and browse the internet.
Macs look cooler too. The biggest difference is in the Operation System (OS). An operating system is pretty much what runs the computer. Everything you see is ran by the operating system. Macs current supported OS I think is called Mac OS OX while Windows current OS is Windows XP (they're comign wout with Windows Vista in early 2007).
Apple makes the computers that run on their operating system while Windows just makes the operating system, and other hardware makers such as HP, and Dell make the computer that Windows runs on. You can tell if yoru computer was made for Windows XP if there's a sticker on it that says Designed for Micrsoft Windows XP.
I realy don't recomend getting a Macintosh unless you just want web browsing, and have no specified computer experties.

All righty. An Apple computer is toatally different from windows. Mac (the apple computer) has a different operating system, which u may find at first difficult to switch from a PC. HOWEVER, if you would like, u can program your mac to run Windows, (even better than it will run on a PC) which will let you, like, work windows on Apple. if you would like to do that, talk to your local Apple dealer. Otherwise, there are many similarities between apple and windows, and, if you want to switch, it might take you around a month-month and 1/2 to get used to it. I whish you a lot of fun with your mac. Bye bye!!

Like your question most answers are very general. Win vs Mac comparisons often take on the same emotional attachment as religious argument. I use both and perfer Windows because of the incredable spectrum of software that they can run. Macs are much better at video production (final cut pro) but the cost of the software is about over 2000 dollars. In general Macs cost alot more than PC's. I recomend you look at the web site www.xvsxp.com to see what areas will effect you most.

Some people use Apples and Windows for many reasons. They might have different specs and stuff. Apples are very Stylish looking and might consider "cute". But I know one then that. If you edit videos and make your own movies and stuff like that like for hardcore editing. People prefer using a Apple cause they don't hang. I use Windows and sometimes when I render my video with Windows it freezes up. So theirs some things Apple is better than Windows and not.

Now, there is basically no difference between a Mac and a PC they both use x86 processors (in the form of Intel on Macs) and both can run Winodws. The difference is that Macs can run OSX which I think is far superior to Windows in many ways. But the good news is that if you want to switch to Windows on your Mac, you can use a utility called Boot Camp.

The operating system on a mac is unix based, so you will see a difference. You can get a windows emulator though if you want to.
