I like a t bar metal posts for the supports. This way I can have 2 rows of laundry. This is good for lots of wash. Make sure they are tall enough to hang out your clothes comfortably. Also you will need a hanging bag for your clothes pins.

dig a hole, get a tubular form, mix cement up, use the form to make the base for the clothes hanger. I've got one that like a octagon shape and it's got quite a few lines going around so you can hang a load on laundry no problem.

use pressure treated 4x4's, or a tree if you have 1 in your yard. they sell cotton clothesline kits at lowes, & home depot. or try K-mart, Walmart etc... use a posthole digger, go 18 inches down to set post, if neccessary.

before you decide to put one up you want to be sure you can. MANY places have banned them unless they are pre-existing.
Otherwise any pole, metal being best is usable.Try your local Home Depot for a kit.
