she won't work for under $xx.xx an hour? She's been on unemployment for almost 6 months and she thinks they're going to automatically renew her for another 6 months. I say that borders on refusing a job, which in this state anyway, would (I believe) make her liable to repay part, if not all her unemployment. What do you guys think?

I think your lazy friend needs to re-establish the meaning of "pride". She seems to have pride in the fact that she won't settle for less than x amount an hour. But watching Days of Our Lives for the past six months while picking up a check from the government, that she's ok with?

She should say that she is looking for X amount of dollars and that she is also looking for room for advancement. She should be honest about her financial needs, but leave room for negotiation or she may really have to get a job because she will loose unemployment benefits.

generally a potential employer will ask what rate you would like and that would be the appropriate time to tell them. I wouldn't start off an interview like that. most interviewers would just tell them right then and there to have a nice day and not call them back.
