It is well known that the fashion industry is highly competitive and in some cases the market is saturated with many talented fashion designers already.

Don't let that deter you. Never listen to the negativity of others who for the most part only want to steal your ideas and your hope away from you. Be Strong, Open Minded and Genuine.

The way to succeed at it is this:

1) Look at the market place out there in fashion and see what is already out there. Embrace the successes of others. Do your research carefully, looking at every angle with an open mind.

2) Now, create an original idea of your own. Something that hasn't been done before but yet, something that is needed in today's society. Do NOT copy another success from somebody that has already done it.

3) Create a few fresh ideas and a portfolio of your OWN original ideas on paper. Sketches on a drawing book will suffice.

4) Take one of your new original ideas and develop an actual model or a sample of it. Take this with you when you apply for a new job or school each time and demonstrate it completely.

5) Become a problem solver for the fashion biz. Solve their problems with your new creative solutions and you'll be a fashion winner!

P.S. All this info also applies to every field, not just fashion.

I'm an avid scuba diver. One thing that scuba divers require but sometimes never get is a full length latex body suit that is breathable and easy to put on and take off, while keeping us warm underwater.Cost Effectiveness here is the key. Recycled rubber can easily be made into any new product and that has never been done before. It should also be for both men and women.

Internship- most magazines or papers want tangible, on the job experience. Fashion is fun- but there is also a serious work side that involves most importantly the ability to multi task and have unbelievable organization. Call the magazines in your area and see if they are hiring - also the modeling agencies as they are the ones talking directly to the people you want to work for so you can build contacts. Finally- try any fashion 'house' or catalog in your area (Like Talbot's) as it is another place to be at least 'in' the fashion business. Be aware- they may only offer free internships- very very few pay you and if they do- its usually lunch money (I am serious) Once you get your foot in the door- you can take it from there. Masters Degrees are great- but on the job experience shows that you are willing to do whatever it takes to break in. FYI- unless you become an editor for a VERY well known magazine- they money is not that great. It is considered more a prestige job then a well paying one.
