Buff Orpingtons are my choice, they are nice to handle and do extremely well in cooler temperatures if you plan on free-range. But, a mix of hens and rooster would probably be better as all males will fight more and the hens are good producers.

Leghorns aren't a very good breed of chicken to raise for meat. The are a thin breed and don't have much of a breast on them for good meet production.

Definitely the best chicken for meat production is Cornish. You also need to know that there are two different types of each breed of chicken. There are bantams (the smaller variety which get to about 1 foot tall) and standards (the larger variety which get to about 3 feet tall).

Cornish are also good because they typically have less feathers to pluck than most other breeds. One downside is that they are typically a little harder to breed (less fertile) than some other breeds of chicken. Rhode Island Reds and Plymouth Rocks also make pretty descent meat chickens, but not as good as Cornish.

Grew up raising chickens and showed them in 4-H for 11 years.

For the best meat production, you're going to want to go with Cornish cross. This is whay commercial producers use these days. When I was raising chickens with the FFA our local extention office provided the chicks to us for $2 a piece, but if your FFA doesn't offer than, you can order them online.

As far as fighting, roosters won't really begin to fight until they are sexually mature. Your chickens would be slaughtered well before then so it shouldn't be an issue. Just make sure they are no overcrowded, and you'll be okay.

a cornish cross is the best choice for a meat bird. Leghorns will get to perhaps a 1 1/2 lb in the time it'll take the cronish cross to hit bout 10 lbs. and a leghorn's mature weight is about 3 lbs (live) P Rocks and rode insland reds are a very distant second...

White leghorns are good for meat, but Ccornish cross are better, and they are decent layers. Barred Rock ar also duel purpose, and can be very showy.
