In My mind, i believe that the the written word is the most influential invention. As for the greatest invention, i guess it would be dependent on what's important to different people. Some could say the combustion engine is the greatest due to it's influence on the world. Others would say modern medicine for all the lives it's saved. No matter what is most important to me, I'm almost positive it isn't "sliced bread"

It can only be the printing press. The dissemination of knowledge which was then made possible has spawned the birth of all inventions that followed, and given birth to great civilizations. The American Revolution would not have happened if T Paine couldn't easily print and subsequently distribute "Common Sense."

The greatest invention ever is the Cell phone. Still baffles me how i can talk to somebody 5million miles away without seeing him/her physically.
