Drain it, take it out and take the float bowl off. Be careful not to lose the pin that holds the float in. Keep the carb perfectly horizontal when taking off the float bowl. Take note as to how the float is assembled in case it comes out. Not difficult when you see it.
With the bowl off you'll see the jets sticking out. They are the copper colored pieces with screw tips. The main jet and the Pilot jet. The main jet is usually centered in there and is sticking out the farthest. Take it out and blow carb clean through it and follow up by shooting some compressed air through. Hold onto it tight. They go reaally far!! lol. after that put it back in. Don't overtighten it though. They are somewhat fragile. And never try to reem the jets with anything to clean them.
Next, do the same with the pilot jet. This is the jet that looks like an uzi muzzle. Reinstall it.
Make sure the float bowl is clean, take carb cleaner and squirt it through all the little holes and valves in the opened carb. (Whatch your eyes!!)
Blow air through there too. But not a lot of pressure. just enough to clear the shmeg out.
Put the bowl back on and reinstall.
Your good to go.

2 stroke or 4? 2 stroke, leave alone. 4 stroke....1 cyl? Multiple cylinders are tough to get the carbs set back just right. Single, not bad. Just drop the reservoir and clean it. Then disassemble the top side. You can use a very small piece of wire to clean the ports and use carb cleaner. Be careful with the wire.
