I received this from my Grandfather's estate and I know nothing about coins. Can you people please just give me a rough dollar amount for the value. Please, no stupid answers like $50.00, plus shipping and handling (how stupid is that!).

I have the 2007 Red Book and that coin is up to $48,000 - $80,000 in uncirculated.

The only $50 US coin from 1851 that I know of are privately minted coins, known as Moffat-Humbert, with value in uncirculated condition from $40,000 to $57,000.

Has it been graded or "slabbed" A good way to get a ballpark is to do a completed auction search on Ebay Also check out numismatic sites

What does the coin look like?
Is it octagonal or round and what is on the face and back?
