Dixie Chick are a pretty cool group!!!! I don't see what's the big deal with them. Everyone else expresses themselves and how they feel about Bush and the war. Why can't they? only cuz there from Texas doesn't mean that they have to like Bush. They have their own opinions too. Society and media treat celebs as mindless freaks!!!! But they have their own opinions and thoughts. It's not fair that they can't say what they think.

I agree with what you said. I do think that they have the right to say what they want about the president or where they are from, just like anyone else.Yes they are famous and they did say it on television, but who on television doesn't comment on their political views? That is what the world wants to hear. It's all over every station you turn to, so what do you expect people to talk about?
As for people not wanting to ever buy their Cd's again because of there political views, dose that then mean that people should stop buying Toby Keith's Cd's because he supports the troops, or stop watching Leno or O'Brien because they make jokes about the president? No of course not.Because that would be ridiculous.
Just because the Dixie Chicks are singers doesn't make them any different that any other entertainer. Bill Mahr is a comedian and Hates Busch, but just because he's a comedian doesn't give him any more right to talk bad about the president than the Dixie Chicks. It makes no sense to punish some one because of their political views when you don't punish everyone that voices them no matter which side.
If you did that then you would have to lock your self in a little box with no windows for the rest of you life.

Natalie Manes (or however the hell you spell it) didn't "make fun of" the President. She said she was embarassed to be from the same state as him. She wasn't joking she was being malicious. There's a HUGE difference. The thing that pissed me off about it is that she didn't even have the balls to make the comment in the US. She had to go to Canada to say it.
Not only did she say she didn't like Toby Keith's song, she basically said his type of music is for white trash rednecks. I hate to tell her but these so-called "rednecks" also made her and the Dixie Chicks rich and household names. She bit the hand. Celebrities need to just get on stage and entertain. No one wants to pay that amount of money to go to a concert and listen to some political ranting.

First of all, the difference between Leno, SNL, etc. is that they are comedians, and are in the U.S., the Chicks were overseas when they made their statements. and they're singers not comedians, play your instruments sing your songs, get on your bus and move on down the road. Secondly, you have the right to listen to whomever you choose, and radio stations have the same right to play whomever they choose. As far as that goes most stations stopped playing the Chicks at the request of the listeners who called in. If you want to hear them call in & request a song.

The problem is that blue states like Leno and Conan, while red states like country music.
I'm not a big fan of Country -- though I do like a couple of their songs. I think they are entitled to their political opinions. I don't buy music or see movies based on the politics of the singers or actors, so don't understand the furor over their statements.
Anyone who calls someone UnAmerican for expressing their beliefs is -- well, UnAmerican.

I originally was against the Chicks when they said what they said... but over time...I have leaned toward the understanding that they have a right to voice their opinions and their views... In the full scope of things.. it's not like they are the Vice President or some major political figure that made these statements.. for godsakes...they are a bunch of singers and songwriters.. who really cares what they think.... I'm not going to buy a Van if they think VANs are cool....
We give Famous people's opinions too much value... they are not different than you and I.... they have one vote.. and I have one Vote...

I agree and disagree with you at the same time, I am a military wife and the thing that made the military community angry was they had a song out in support of the troops then she publicly commented and basically showed no support for the troops. For us it is not about what she said about Bush it is her comments about the war we have family members who have to go even though they don't want to it is not a choice it is a job, and even though people and actors and singers don't support the war and Bush they should support the troops they deserve it.

I don't like country music, and I don't like celebrities who use their fame to voice their political opinions. They should just do their jobs, which is to act, sing, dance or whatever, and keep their mouths shut when it comes to politics. I will never buy a Dixie Chicks product of any kind.
