In a lot of cases, suicide is a violent (therefore, hostile) act. Now, if you are like the countless people before you, the question should have been "If a schizophrenic is trying to commit suicide, is it considered a hostage situation?" And the answer to that would be...no. Schizophrenia and multiple personalities (or dissociative identity disorder) are two different disorders. People with schizophrenia do not have multiple personalities. They may hear voices, but do not have multiple personalities.

Depends on the situation. In some situations letting them commit suicide might be an act of compassion. Sometimes it can be so bad that keeping them alive and sedated is just cruel.
