The truth? Keeping up with the Joneses. We have so much opportunity in this country. This is why we are a great nation for self motivated individuals.

No doubt that many Americans have felt the sting of prejudice. Whether it is race, religion, or sometimes for no reason, there is someone to make you feel less important than they. Even the disabled have this happening. This is the United States of America, and should not even be a problem of this kind in a free democracy. I do not understand this. I am a senior citizen and have seen it in the 3 different States in which I have lived and it still surprises me. If the good Lord wanted us all to be the same He would have made us that way. Ignorance is at the base of this kind of action, so all we can do is try to either point the person in the right direction, or if they are combustive, walk away. If they do not like you it is their loss. If you look at little children at play, unless they have been taught otherwise, they usually gravitate towards kids that are friendly and do not differentiate at all. Of course, the kids with the most toys is probably the most popular.

Really, I have to say that I haven't faced any true hardships that were caused by being an American. My hardships have been caused by poor choices. At least I had the opportunity to make those choices and to learn.
What is most difficult for me is watching our culture die, watching our rights go down the drain in the names of tolerance, discrimination, and security. I hate that Christianity is now the most persecuted religion in this "Christian" country. I hate that the people who have the hardest times are single white males around the age of 21. I hate that we've earned the description of fat, lazy, rude Americans. Those are the hardships I see.

My greatest hardships had nothing to do with living in America. They were the deaths of two loved ones. But I am very thankful to live in the US, where true hardships are much fewer and farther between than in many other countries, plus we are still allowed to complain about it all!

well i would say that for me anyways i cant speak for everyone else, is that we took land away from other races way back then. like from the spanish and things like that, so all this sudden we have a big deal over imigrants when most of thier ancestors came from here and we tell them that they cant be here unless they pass the qualifications and have to have cards. i understand that the united states is pretty much over crowded but that is not thier fault and so i believe we should do everything we can to make things work better. saposivly the united states are doing the best they can to make everyone happy also understanding that not everyone will be satisfied is not something we can help. but i feel bad, i mean i understand that the americans that are here are like well we worked hard and were born here and have worked hard to get to where we are, and look at it like they will loose thier jobs and things like that. well the people that are called imigrants work hard where they are from to be able to get here, so ok everyone is working hard not just us americans. so for me this is a hardship, i understand both sides and i just want both sides to be happy but no one will ever be totaly satisfied. the united states is going to grow alot more with or without the imigrants anyways. if i were an imigrant i would be upset to know that i cant be an american too. people who belonged here before us have a right to be here without all the guidlines, and i can understand why they are upset, so this is my hardship cause i realy care.

Well I live in Beaufort, South Carolina and though places are worse off I would have to say the horrible school system. The other hardship Ive faced would probably be the double standard with men and women....one last one I think is important is living in a culture based on fear. We see it everywhere movies, music, TV- we are so brainwashed into believeing everything...

Living under the foul shadow of George W Bush!
America is founded on several principals that Dubya and his cronies have been trying to destory since he got into office. Such as:
-The seperation between church & state. Do I even need to go into this? Not teaching evolution in schools, anti-gay legislation, and other aspects of his trying to push his backwards religious views on a nation that is not supposed to be a religious state. Bush & his cronies are really not that different than our evil enimies, the terrorists -- they both want to ignore science and live in a theocracy!
-- The destruction of our legal system.
-- The obliteration of envoirmental safty systems. They keep putting the fox in charge of the hen house! And who is getting rich from destorying envoinmental codes so they can pollute the world? A handful of his redneck buddies!
-- The destruction of the election system. They've STOLEN TWO ELECTIONS!
-- Shrinking freedom of press. They keep bulling the press, and have destroyed any notion of transparancy in the government!
I could go on! Their values totally confict with almost everything America stands for, and they call themselves patriots!
It's been a hard couple of years!

I'm American.
I eat hardship for breakfast and then smile about it on the evening news.
Americans create their own lives.
Hardship implies something forced upon you.
Note to all the whiners who expect life to be fair: Go to Canada.

Think you may want to narrow your question a tad, specially if you are refering to United Statesians...
--------------------------
Population Stats for America
Central America* 39,400,762
South America370,118,282
The Caribbean 39,239,636
North America436,623,228
Total # of Americans885,381,908
source http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats2.htm *
* This site erroneously puts Mexico in Central America. The American
continent is formed from three continental plates, the North American
plate that ends just south of Mexico, the South American plate that
ends just north of Colombia, and the Atlantic plate that hols most of
central America and the Caribbean. Mexico is in north America.
