Yes he can. The answer to this question has always been and continues to be "free will". God creates a rock that he CHOOSES not to be able to lift, therefore satisfying both elements of the paradox.
All logical premises must agree on the same set of rules in order to be able to prove anything. This not only does nothing to disprove omnipotence, it goes a great deal toward establishing it, given the context of the arguement.

ok well u didn't ask if God could create a rock so big that He would "decide" not to lift it. So the answer to your original question is NO, God cannot make a rock so big that He cannot lift it. He is all powerful and the assumption that this would be possible is absurd.

Well...Since scientists believe that there is a finite amount of matter in the universe (meaning that there is only so much out there and nothing new can be created - it can only change from one form to another) then it would make sense that God could use every single scrap of matter in the universe to make only one rock. Would it be too heavy to lift? Well no, since he can take care of the whole universe already then he could easily do the same if it was in the form of one...big....rock!! Nice riddle, though.

Sure thing God would first create a rock so big that he couldn't lift it.
And then he would lift the rock.

God will create a rock so big he cannot lift it.
Then he will chose not to lift it.
It isn't that he couldn't mind you, but that he chose not to.
Yeah, I know that doesn't make any sense, but ask a silly question, get a silly answer.

You are asking whether an all powerful God has it in his power to create a permanent or temporary limit on that power, and this is a case of an attribute he is capable of eliminating, however, his status is clearly changed after he does so.
More nasty questions arise though about our status, and God's perfect foreknowledge. It is not easy to see how we can be guilty of anything under such an agency.

i guess that if he wanted to create a rock he didn't want to lift, he could. i don't think it's a question about his power, but maybe more about his intentions.
in other words, it's not so much a "can he or can't he" question. it's a "does he want to or not want to" question.

No God could never create anything he couldn't handle cause he sees your life pass by in the blinking of his eye, so he can handle any problem and any situation ever...

No, God cannot do everything. He cannot sin. But I do I have a question for you, though, are you too bored to come up with another question that you just asked a question that everyone has already asked?

My answer to this strange question:
Yes, He can. However, as being capable of doing anything, He could also make himself able to lift it later.
