The steps are:
1. You set up the equation as 18% of 8798=______
*You know that the word of means 'multiply' in mathematical speech*
2. You change 18% to a decimal by moving the 'imaginary decimal' (every whole number's decimal is at the end of the number) over to the left twice.
*Remember that to change a whole number to a percent, you just add a percent sign at the end, to change a percent to a decimal, move the imaginary decimal over to the left twice, and to change a decimal to a percent, you move the decimal place over to the right twice and add a percent sign of course.*
3. Then you multiply the two numbers (8798 and .18) with the largest digit number at the top of the expression (multiplying vertically is easier).
4. Since the decimal in .18 is two spaces left of the last digit, you place the decimal in the same place value as your product.
There's your answer!!!
1583.64
