I'm 5 foot 10 and 142 pounds. I'm quick and athletic. I'm 18 and get great grades so failing is not a problem. I'm strong but I have horrible endurance as a result from a torn hamstring. The hammie is also a worry. Any suggestions?

I'd tell you to see if you can learn how to kick or punt. All you have to be is decent and you can get invites you just need experience.

Possesion WR just remember to build chemistry with your QB because you're not a large target the QB has to learn to trust you in order to throw the ball to you.

Otherwise develop good coverage skills as a corner and try to add some muscle you could be a good nickel back (on the field 60% of the time on D vs 100% as a pure corner which would help with the endurance issue)

Also If you have good lateral movement try returning punts kickoffs.

If you've never played before and you're trying to make the team be up front with the coach and tell them you're willing to play anywhere.

Good luck it's a great game.

Since you're 18, I assume you're either playing college football or high school football at the varsity level. At the high school level, being 5'10'' you should be considered tall enough, unless you happen to play in California or Texas where the competition is brutal. From my experiences playing high school football here in northern California, most starting varsity cornerbacks (typically the smallest defensive players on the field) stand close to 6 feet.

A major problem would be your weight. You might be quick and athletic, but if you are really serious about playing football you definitely need to put on weight - until you get up close to at least 190 lbs. for your height.

You mention that you had a torn hamstring; I'm curious how much that affects your explosiveness and acceleration. Assuming that you put on some weight, and your hamstring doesnt bother you, with your height you might want to consider playing wide reciever. A lot of your decision should also depends on personal preference, i.e what type of role you would like to play on the team, whether you like getting hit/taking contact or not, etc...

Running backs get hit a lot, if you play running back your almost garaunteed to recieve SOME amount of contact every play, be it from running the ball or blocking in the backfield. Your weight would definitely be a concern here, many defensive players at the high school level (esp. defensive linemen and linebackers weigh over 200 lbs.).

On defense, you could consider going out for either cornerback or safety. If this is your first time playing either position, cornerback would be a lot easier for you to adapt to; for safeties are often given the responsibilities of calling audibles in the secondary and also need time to develop the ability to recognize and disrupt offensive plays. Again, if youre the type that likes contact, put on weight and play linebacker - coaches are always looking for fast linebackers. However, again you'll often find yourself taking on pulling tackles who weigh over 200 lbs.

If all else fails; depending on how fast you are, you might also consider playing special teams. Your coaches should also be able to judge where you fit in best with the system, so it might not hurt to speak to several of your position coaches first. After going through off season workouts and mini camp, they should have a better idea of your abilities and thus be able to find you a position where you'll be able to contribute to the team.

With a bad hamstring, you would be a liability on the field. However, there is always a need for someone that knows football to help out with the daily "Operations" of the football program. It is a great way to become part ofthe team and contribute to it's success without having to worry about giving up the long TD. (Your size makes you a DB in my book.) Good luck.

I would think wide reciever for offense because you have pretty good height. On defense I would look to play safety because it isnt as much rnning as a corner back, and your athleticism out there will be a big advantage. If this is youre first year playing and you are 18 most of the positions are probably accounted for. Ask some people on the team where they are lacking depth and try for one of those poistions. On the younger levels they will put the best players on the field.

Are you 18 and heading in to college or going to be a senior in HS? Unfortunately, you are built for only a handful of positions: QB, RB, WR, CB, SS, FS, K, P, KR/PR. OK, maybe that is more than a handful, but you get my point. If you are really that concerned about your hammy, maybe try another sport. If you are playing QB, you dont need great endurance if you are a pocket QB, but you're not really built like one. RB & WR would mean endurance and taking a lot of hits to the legs. CB, SS, FS, would involve agility, endurance and strength (especially at FS or SS). KR/PR doesnt need the endurance, so maybe look at role of KR/PR along with RB, WR, CB, SS, FS. In all reality, a 5'10" CB in high school would be a good advantage for you.

From what you said there the only competitive position that you could play is the goalkeeper. Anything else will get you injured
