My labtop whenever I turn it on the screen acts normaly and then quickly becomes very dim to the point I can barly see what is going on.

I tried to work with the settings but it dose not seem to affect it. The only thing that works is turning it off and on and swiching between battery and AC power.

this though is starting to piss me off. Is their any fix to this problem short of sending it back to the company? (PS is a Dell inspiron 1300)

Check up with Dell, maybe the screen is faulty?

Usually when switching from AC to battery the screen dims as part of power saving. There should be adjustable settings in the display options. Also make sure your AC plug is not broken or loose. This could cause the intermittent display problems.

You might want to ensure that the power cable is seated well. Cause if it is not the display might change. Also make sure that that there is not a ambient light monitor that adjusts you brightness for you.

Turn the brightness back up, that usually helps.
