Everywhere I look there are people sporting the logos of companies from billabong to Roxy and everything else you can think of. What do you think when you see this?

Yes, some of the merchandise is nice, I guess. But what about the T-shirts that cost $30.00 because they say "Hurley" or "Roxy" on it. That seems ridiculous.

I think that many times it shows that some people don't feel important or capable of being noticed by other people unless they are a walking advertisement of what they spend on their clothing. I think it also shows that many people are afraid to actually have a style of their own. Instead, they would rather look like a clone of what someone else thought should be popular.

I totally agree with you.
It is a trend nowadays particularly among teens to show off their $200 Nike shoes (or whatever they cost; I would not know) and labels.
Some have parents who barely can afford the stuff. I recently heard a woman who really did not have much being persuaded to buy a Can$500 jeans for her teenage girl.
It is sad when people do that and even succumb to that trend.
I don't really know the reason.......could be because we live in such a materialistic society that we have to impress everyone around us.
That by the way also applies to cars, houses (adults.....I know somebody who is real estate agent and is flabbergasted sometimes to see some people who live in ultra-expensive homes don't even have the money to go out.....or worse, if he is to be believed have hardly any furniture because they just cannot afford anything else).
In my opinion, it denotes a sad lack of intellectual capabilities. A primal need to belong to peer groups, or herd and say moooo like them.
I do not mean to say that all circles are like that.......but there are definitely plenty of them. Whether you talk about electronics like the latest gadget in cellphone, TV or whatever.
I don't see why people should be living advertisement for such or such company....They pay extra , influence other people who themselves will buy the product.
People used to be PAID if they wanted to advertise a certain company on their cars.......why does not this apply to common goods like clothing, apparels etc ? eh ?

Some people can be fooled so easily......years ago, I used to buy my clothes in a cheap Indian store for $10 and always laughed when I saw EXACTLY the same products sold in an upmarket for £60 or so !

Same thing here in Canada.......why buy pairs of gloves for $20 when you can find them in dollars stores for $2 !

I like neat, simple, what suits the person.

And I have never owned anything with a label; I would feel a fool actually. I am might able to afford to but ......some people complain that I am kind of a black sheep :-).

To Angel in UK : I remember stories of teens being robbed of jackets, shoes etc if they happened to have a logo !

PS: Blews......why are you advertising for Ray-ban sunglasses ?????

whats wrong with it?
i think those name brands make some really nice clothes. just so happen that the logo is on the clothing.

i have a shirt that says roxy, & i think its really cute. the company just put the name on it so if people see u wearing that nice outfit, they will see what brand it is & go buy some more of em like that.

ppl arent necessarily trying to show it off.
why do u have to be a hater?

People's preference on what they wear, should be up to them. Why do you ask this type of question? E-mail me back

I wear Nike, not just for the logo, but because their brand holds up through washing, wear and tear, material is so strong and 100 % cotton, absorbs mostly any kind of perspiration, when I work out. I don't go out and buy "Walmart" clothes, been there done that, you might as well wear it once and throw it away, "attitude".

(shrugging my shoulders, with a little grin)

I own a couple of shirts like that, but it is ones like the 40th anniversary of Cabelas or the Bass Pro Shop one made specifically for my state. But I do wear ones for the company I work for, too. I guess it is a loyalty thing.

I think the people should be paid for mobile advertising. When I purchase an automobile, I make the dealer take off the tags they put on the back right-rear of the car unless they agree to pay me $150.00 per day for advertising their business.

Of course, they take off the tag.

i think it is very different in England (unless you live in London) the average worker can't afford brand names like Prada or Gucci (to name but a few, damn, now I'm giving them free advertising, lol) and typically i think we would be embarrassed to admit we have spent absurd amounts of money on clothes or accessories just because of who made them. i like my clothes to look unique and pretty on me, i don't wanna turn around and see 5 other people wearing the exact same outfit as myself. even if i could afford to buy these sorts of clothes, i wouldn't cos i wouldn't wanna be a complete sheep.

It looks good on a racing car driver's jumpsuit. If they are not a racing car driver, then it might not be as cool.

If it is a product they are really into, though - then it could be seen as a way of showing/showing-off their support.

If you like that sort of thing, then go for it. I personally laugh at people like that all the time, but then again I'm just a tree huggin neo-hippie and no one listens to me. ; )

I think its stupid and the last thing i would wear. I think the ones that buy the fakes are even stupider, why bother wasting money to pretend to be something?
