Definitely not an atheist, he carried the bible into battle
"lets cross the river and rest under the shade of the trees"...or something to that effect.

His last words were either "Strike the tents!" or "Let us cross the river and rest in the shade of the trees." I get him confused with Robert E. Lee when it comes to last words.

He was shot by his own men who mistook his uniform for that of a yankee.

He was strangley subdued at the Battle of the Seven Days.

First action in 1st battle Bull Run, Manssass virginia. Not an athiest, and I forget his last words, but I know he was shot by his own men on accident. Upon hearing of it, General Lee cried out "I have lost my right arm!"

uh let's see, he taught at Virgina Military Institute and his last words were something like "let us cross over the river and rest under the shade of the trees", or something along those line.
