Just like a new hard drive looks. Though now we can pack more data per square inch, hard drives since the very first one have functioned on the same principles. You won't be able to tell any physical difference between a hard drive now and one from well, 10 years ago.

It's a metal box about the shape of a paperback book with a wide gray ribbon coming out of it next to a connector with 4 wires (2 black, a red and a yellow).

Some older hard drives are in the 5.25in form. In an old P2, I wouln't be surprised to see one like that.

Pretty much the same as the new harddrives. Usually people referred to it as 'desktop harddrive (internal)'. (FYI notebook harddrive is smaller).
